Not just a simple itinerary for walkers on Lake Garda, but a real must for trekking lovers, who can’t resist easy and scenic trails.

The BUSATTE-TEMPESTA trail
Today I will tell you about one of my favourite routes, which is not too difficult and is perfect for a fast work-out and accessible for everyone- the BUSATTE-TEMPESTA route, with a maximum of 220 mt ascent.
For this excursion you only need a pair of training shoes, a small rucksack with a bottle of water, a banana and some dried fruit in case you suddenly need some extra energy, but most of all, don’t forget your camera or a fully charged phone.

This routes starts at the Busatte Park, which is located above Torbole and can be reached on foot from the Hotel Santoni, or you can go by car if you prefer to miss out on the first up hill part. When you arrive at the park, you will find a large car park where you can leave your car.
After crossing the park, you will find the beginning of the route which is about 4-5 km long. After a first up hill start, stop to catch up your breath and enjoy the amazing view of Torbole, with it’s colourful roofs and the blue waters of the Lake.
As you carry on, you will walk through an enchanting landscape. Geology lovers will absolutely be amazed by the territory or if you are simply very curious, you can find big signs along route that explain to you the main characteristics of the surrounding area.
400 steps and more!
Do you know what makes the Busatte-Tempesta route so particular?
Definitely the 400 steps that make up part of the track! Don't be afraid, the route is still easy and the steps are down hill. After the first lot of steps, you keep coming across them until the end of the track. Every step you take you will be amazed by the stunning view on the lake. An emotion that only the colours on Lake Garda can evoke.
Short or long option?
At a certain point you will arrive at a crossroad. If your friends are waiting for you for an aperitif, take the road that brings you to the village of Tempesta and return to Torbole by bus (we recommend checking the bus timetable before you leave). If, instead, you are on form and still feel like walking, you can choose between two alternatives:
- The first one is to take the alternative route that will join up with the first lot of stairs, to avoid having to climb all the stairs on your way back.
- The second is to walk back via the same route and walk up all the 400 stairs (prepare yourself to feel your muscles hurting, however this will be a reward for your physique!)
Once you are back at the Busatte park, my advise would be to take a break at the park or stop for a refreshing drink at the bar.
When to go:
- During summer, when the temperatures are very high, I would recommend starting very early in the morning (at 7 AM). At this time all you can hear is the lovely sounds of nature and you will avoid the heat, as well as the large amounts of people that decide to walk it later on in the day.
- When the temperatures are fresher, you can also walk it in the afternoon without any problem. During low season it will be alot quieter too.
